Data Protection Policy

Regionnaire.net is an independent project designed to help parkrunners visualise their achievements and progress across regions. This policy explains what data is collected, how it’s used, and how it’s kept secure, in line with parkrun’s data protection principles.

1. User data

Users may create an Athlete Profile by signing up with their email address. These email addresses are securely stored in Microsoft Azure Active Directory and are not saved in the Regionnaire.net database. This ensures that personal information remains protected and separate from the website’s stored data.

Currently, all parkrun results are entered manually by users. In the future, integration with the official parkrun API may allow users to link their profiles via parkrun ID and automatically view their results. Should this feature be introduced, only the minimum data required to display results and progress will be stored, and personal data will never be shared or sold.

2. Event and results data

Event data is sourced from the publicly available events.json file and stored locally to support map performance and functionality. The data is refreshed roughly once a week to include new events and updates. In the future, this process may be replaced or supplemented by official parkrun API access.

All manually entered parkrun result data remains under the user’s control. Regionnaire.net does not modify or verify this information.

3. Geospatial data

Geographic and boundary data are obtained from open data providers including OpenStreetMap, Ordnance Survey (UK), Główny Urząd Geodezji i Kartografii (Poland), Ireland’s Open Data Portal, and DIVA-GIS. These datasets are processed in QGIS to optimise performance and visual clarity. In some cases, simplifying shapes for better speed may slightly alter boundaries; users are welcome to report any inaccuracies.

4. Analytics

Regionnaire.net uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This helps improve usability and performance. Analytics data is collected anonymously and does not identify individual users.

5. Data security

All communication between users and Regionnaire.net is encrypted via HTTPS. Personal identifiers (such as email addresses or, in the future, parkrun IDs) are handled securely within Azure and only retained for as long as necessary to provide the intended functionality.

6. Data sharing and commercial use

Regionnaire.net does not share, sell, or use personal data for marketing or commercial purposes. All event and geographical data are used solely to visualise parkrun activity and user achievements.

7. Your rights

Users can request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data at any time by contacting the site owner via the About page.
